KABALE HEALTH CENTRE OPERATES WITHOUT TOILET
By Richard Akandwanaho
In Kabale–
Kitooma Health Centre II in Rubaya Sub County in Kabale district is operating without a toilet for it’s staff and patients, which compels them to trek for more than half a kilometer to find a place of convenience.
The only toilet at the health facility is none functional after it was
destroyed by heavy rainfall in January.
One of the health workers, who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, said that they currently trek to near home surrounding the facility to ease them-selves.
Alex Bangi, one of the locals from Kitooma parish says the absence of toilets exposes patients and health workers to hygiene related diseases.
The Kitooma Health Centre II in charge; Davis Byamukama, calls
for government intervention to help them to put up toilets for the
staff and patients.
He says that the current toilet at the facility is non functional and
it puts the lives of workers and patients at a risk of getting other
sanitary diseases. He says that they made several pleas to the leaders but nothing has been done.
The Kabale District Chief Administrative Officer Wilson Tubugyenda says they are not aware of the problem at the health facility. He however says that the authorities are going to visit the area and the problem will be addressed very soon.
