Kabale District Health department has today received 24 solar powered fridges from the Ministry of Health, to help in storing medicines and also boosting vaccination services in the district.
According to the Acting Kabale District Health Officer, Alfred Besigensi, the fridges were procured and donated by the Ministry with support from Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
He says that the fridges, will be put in health centre IIs and some health centre IIIs, where workers have been facing a challenge of travelling long distances to health center IIIs &IVs and sometimes to district vaccine store to pick the vaccines, for vaccination outreaches which has been costly.
Besigensi expressed optimistic that the fridges will increase the potency of the vaccines in protecting children, who have been at risk of acquiring immunizable diseases like polio and measles, as a result of not accessing vaccines.
