2 DEAD, 7 CRITICALLY INJURED IN MASINDI ACCIDENT

Two people were killed in an accident in Masindi district in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 6 a.m. The accident occurred at Kisalizi Trading Center, Buliima Town Council, along the Hoima-Masindi Road.
Seven other people were critically injured in the incident.
The accident involved a Fuso tanker carrying molasses, registration number UAY 410A, and a Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UFF 692Y.
The deceased have been identified as Matia Levul, the driver of the Fuso tanker and a resident of Buliima Town Council, Masindi district, and Amidu Aganyira, the motorcycle rider and a resident of Kisalizi, Masindi. Both died on the spot.
Among the injured victims identified are Amis Mayanja, 40, a resident of Nalenge village in Bulange sub-county, Namutumba district; Robinah Ninsiima, 19, a resident of Buliima in Masindi district; and Shilifah Katusiime, 19, a resident of Buliima Town Council in Masindi district. The particulars of the other four injured victims are yet to be established.
The Fuso tanker was traveling from Hoima to Masindi when it collided head-on with the motorcycle, which was heading towards Hoima.
All the injured victims were passengers in the Fuso tanker. The injured were immediately evacuated to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital and Masindi General Hospital for specialized medical attention.
The bodies of the deceased were picked up by the police and taken to Masindi General Hospital in masindi mortuary, where they await postmortem examination.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the accident and stated that investigations have begun to determine the exact cause.
Preliminary police investigations suggest reckless driving on the part of both the driver and the rider. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been towed and are parked at Buliima Police post.
