The Tumusiime Mutebile Foundation in partnership with the Diocese of Kigezi have established a dialysis unit in Kabale municipality in honor of former Bank of Uganda governor, the late Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile.
This has been put up as a way of extending dialysis treatment nearer to the people in and around Kabale municipality. A dialysis unit is a facility that provides dialysis treatments to people with kidney failure. Dialysis itself is a procedure which uses a machine to filter blood and remove waste and excess fluid.
Governor Mutebile succumbed to kidney complications on January 23, 2022 at Nairobi hospital in Kenya. It is after his demise that his family started the Tumusiime-Mutebile Foundation in honor of his positive legacy and to continue staying relevant in society.
The widow Betty Mutebile and the late Mutebile’s relatives who included; David Kyomukama Mutebile, retired major general Timothy Mutebile and Ednah Nyakaishiki Mutebile, confirmed that the unit had been stationed at the diocese’s health facility Rugarama Hospital in Kabale district.
They added that before his demise the late governor had promised to established such a unit in Kabale district. The Ugx240m unit is to serve patients from all the districts of Kigezi region.
Dr. Gilbert Mateeka, Kabale District health officer said the establishment of the unit is timely because none of the health facilities in Kigezi region has one.
