Tooro subjects have woken up to grief following the death of their King, His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
Subjects have gathered at the royal palace in Fort Portal to mourn the monarch, describing his death as a great loss to the Kingdom and the country.
The death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV has plunged the Tooro Kingdom into mourning, with subjects gathering at the royal palace to pay tribute to their fallen king.
From different constituencies across the Kingdom, subjects arrived at the palace during the night and continued gathering into the morning, sharing messages of grief and mourning the loss of their monarch.
Former Minister of Culture in the Tooro Kingdom, Mwesige Zebidayo, described King Oyo as a developmental leader who loved his subjects.
Mwesige said the death of the King has made it a dark day for the Tooro Kingdom and the country at large.
The King’s Regent, Chris Nyakana Kabaseke, said the Kingdom will observe nine days of mourning in honor of the late Omukama.
Kabaseke added that the people of Tooro have lost an important person, describing the King’s death as a deep pain to the Kingdom.
At the palace, mourners continued to arrive throughout the morning, with subjects sitting and standing in groups as they mourned the King and reflected on his reign.
The mourning comes as the Kingdom begins preparations to honor and bid farewell to a monarch who has been at the Centre of Tooro’s cultural and developmental affairs.
