As preparations intensify for the final sendoff of the late King of Tooro, His Majesty Omusinga Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, Fort Portal Tourism City has joined the people of Tooro in honoring his legacy through tree planting.
The exercise, led by the State Minister for Urban Development Margrate Muhanga Mugisa and supported by security agencies, is part of efforts to preserve the environment in memory of the late king, who was a strong advocate for environmental conservation.
With the kingdom still mourning the passing of their king, residents of Fort Portal Tourism City, government officials and security agencies have turned to tree planting as one of the ways to honor the late King Oyo.
The exercise was led by the State Minister for Urban Development, Hon. Margaret Muhanga Mugisa, who said Fort Portal County has embarked on an ambitious campaign to plant one million trees in memory of the king and to continue his environmental conservation legacy.
Minister Muhanga also called upon other counties in Tooro to join the campaign, saying tree planting will not only preserve the king’s legacy but also contribute to beautifying the kingdom.
The Rwenzori West Regional Police Commander, ASP Joab Wabwire, said the security agencies have joined the subjects of Tooro in paying tribute to their king through environmental conservation.
The City Community Development Officer, Annet Mutabazi, said tree planting is one of the practical ways the city has chosen to honor the late king during the mourning period.
Meanwhile, preparations are continuing at the Tooro Kingdom Palace and across Fort Portal Tourism City as subjects await the arrival of the king’s body for public viewing and the final send off.
The tree planting campaign is expected to continue as Tooro subjects seek to preserve the environmental legacy left by the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
