Police in Masindi District are investigating the theft of 17 computer CPUs and nine monitors from Kinumi Seed Secondary School in Mirya Sub-county, Buruli County.
The computers are suspected to have been stolen in the early hours of Sunday, between 2 AM and 3AM.
Remon Ahaisibwe, the ICT teacher at Kinumi Seed Secondary School, says the theft was discovered on Monday at around 9 AM when Senior One students reported for ICT practical lessons.
Ahaisibwe says he immediately informed fellow teachers before reporting the matter to police at Mirya Police Station.
The acting head teacher, Beatrice Agonzebwa, told police that she was informed about the incident by a school board member at around 11 AM. on Monday.
Agonzebwa suspects that the thieves gained access to the computer laboratory through a window, as the main entrance door showed no signs of forced entry.
A team led by Masindi Deputy Resident District Commissioner Sanon Dhaala visited the school to assess the situation and question school authorities.
Dhaala says three people, including the acting head teacher, ICT teacher and school security guard, have been arrested to aid investigations.
He also says security agencies are pursuing the substantive head teacher and other teachers who were posted to the school but have allegedly not reported for duty since the reopening of schools for the third term.
Dhaala says he will direct the District Education Officer and Chief Administrative Officer to write to the Ministry of Education and Sports over the failure of the posted head teacher and teachers to report for duty.
He has appealed to members of the community to cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could help identify the suspects and recover the stolen computers.
