NEMA FAILS TO EVICT SHEEMA SWAMP ENCROACHERS

Despite efforts by Sheema Municipality Authorities to protect River Rwizi and its surrounding environment, still some people are encroaching on swamps.
The affected swamp borders with Kakigani(Rwampara),Kihunda;in Kagango and Kasozi dvisions in Sheema municipality.
When www.mknewslink.com visited the swamp yesterday, found plantations of maize, millet, egg-plants sweet potatoes, yams and eucalyptus trees owned by people who defied the municipal Authority orders to vacate the swamps.

Recently Sheema municipality authorities formed several environmental committees whose work is to protect River Rwizi and the surrounding swamps in a bid to fight against climate change in Ankole sub-region.
To draw the final nail into the order, when president Museveni was on Radio West recently he ordered people to vacate from swamps with immediate effect.
However, when contacted for a comment, the Sheema municipality town clerk; Geofrey Bamanyisa blamed the matter on NEMA who keep watching while swamps being encroached. “What are the responsibilities of NEMA?, they should wake up and do their work “he said.
