PRIVATE CLINIC OWNERS TO BE ARRESTED OVER HIKING MALARIA DRUGS PRICES

Government has threatened to arrest all private clinic owners who are malaria ACT drugs better known as coaterm at high prices.

Speaking during a national malaria program advocacy meeting with stakeholders at Kitumba headquarters today, Ms. Nina Nabankama from the ministry of health disclosed that it has been observed that there some private clinic owners who are selling the ACT drug to public at a higher price yet the government reduced the tax on them.

Nabankema added that the government also observed that there are many Ugandans who don’t access government hospitals and opt for private clinics for ACT malaria but charged highly.

She explained that for the infants malaria drug price is supposed to be between 1,100/=and 2000/=, 3000/=and 4000/= for the adults.

She further disclosed that the government reduced the drug price due to the high malaria cases in the country where many people have lost lives.

Kemigabo Catherine the Kabarole district health educator said that they are going to engage the offices of the DPC, DISOs, and RDC to crackdown on those clinics that over charge the community.

She disclosed that Malaria has mostly affected pregnant mothers who end up in numerous discourages, children under the age of 5, sickle cell victims and HIV/AIDS patients.

Richard Rwabuhinga the district chairperson said that Malaria has affected the country and families socially, economically and politically.
