SHEEMA, IBANDA MUNICIPALITIES TO KNOW THEIR MPS, MAYORS ON JULY 19, 2018

The long awaited elections for new Municipalities and town councils are set for July 2018 according to the electoral commission.
In a press release, the commission has approved the programme for elections of new municipalities, town councils, and sub-counties.
The process will begin on 26th, April, 2018, with updating voters’ registers, candidates will then be nominated on 4th-6th May 2018, and campaigns for Member of Parliament and local government representatives will commence from 8th June to 17th July.
According to the press release, voting will commence on 13th July 2018 with the special interest groups, then representatives for sub counties and town councils and end on 19th July 2018 with members of parliament, mayors, and district councilors.
In municipalities such as Ibanda and Sheema, interested candidates for mayoral and Member of Parliament posts have already shown up.
Debra Asiimwe, the Sheema district registrar called upon eligible voters and candidates to be vigilant with the programme and embrace it.
She called upon all qualified citizens to apply for the posts of polling officers and assistants.
