MARTYRS DAY: PILGRIMS ASKED TO EMULATE THE MARTYRS

As the Christian community in Uganda and the World converged at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo in Wakiso District to celebrate Martyrs Day in remembrance of the 45 converts executed over a century ago for their religious beliefs, the Kajara county MP Hon Timuzigu Micheal Kamugisha has urged Christians to be exemplary in whatever they do in order to live in peaceful and harmonious country.
Hon. Timuzigu hailed the Christians who have managed to trek long distances from various parts of the World to Namugongo for pilgrimage appealing them to carry forward the legacy of Uganda Martyrs.
Every 3rd June, Christians celebrate the lives of 45 Uganda Martyrs; 23 Anglican and 22 Catholics who were executed on orders of Kabaka Mwanga II of Buganda Kingdom in 1885.
The Catholic Church beatified the 22 Martyrs of its faith in 1920 and canonized them in 1964.
The number of the pilgrims remains unknown but it’s understand more than 100,000 people travelled to Kampala for the event presided over the President of republic of Uganda Yoweri Museveni.
The Ntungamo District woman MP Beatrice Rwakimaari challenged them to promote unity and pray for peace in the country amidst the rampant cases of kidnaps and murders.
Hon .Rwakimaari also asked the followers to emulate what the martyrs did and renew their faith in Christ Jesus.
