MINISTER D’UJANGA LAUNCHES $14M REA CONSTRACTION WORKS IN SHEEMA

The state minister for Energy and mineral development Eng. Simon
D’Ujanga has launched the construction works for the rural
electrification schemes of 14 million dollars about Shs 53 billion.
Speaking at the launching ceremony held at St Patricia vocational
senior secondary school Muhito in Kitagata town council Sheema
district, Minister D’Ujanga said the project will benefit 10 districts
in the south western, western, north western, and Rwenzori service
territory.
These include, Sheema, Kisoro, Kabale, Kibaale, Kasese, Kabarole,
Bundibugyo, Buliisa, Hoima, and Masindi.
He added that the project has been contracted by HASO Engineers
Company limited and consulted by MultiKonsult Ltd both local companies
with a satisfactory track record.
Minister D’Ujanga also said the ministry of energy and mineral development continues to implement government’s effort to move Uganda
to a middle income status through its rural Electrification programme.
The project in Sheema district will cover 81.62Kilometres in Kitagata-Mukasusano (10.87Km), Kabwohe-Rwakitura (11.50Km), Migina sub county-Kikuto (16.65Km) among others.
D’Ujanga also noted that there will be small compensation but also asked land owners to allow the continuity of the project as they will be working
on the compensation process.
On the same day, Minister commissioned the completion of extension
power grid in Kasana Sub County and called upon local people to
economically use electricity to generate income and development in the
area.
Minister for tourism and wildlife also Sheema South area Member of
Parliament Hon. Ephraim Kamuntu said the power line has been a pain in
their political rib adding that transformation can never happen without electricity.
Kamuntu also asked local people to improve their household income by engaging in commercial farming and food security.
