In Sheema
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders on Saturday descended onto Sheema Municipality to drum support for the party candidate Virginia Plan Mugyenyi, who is vying for the parliamentary seat in the newly created municipality.
Ms Mugyenyi is facing among others the NRM’s Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, who is also minister for Science, Technology and Innovation. The election is scheduled for July 19.
Virginia Mugyenyi is the wife of Dr Posiano Mugyenyi, who has contested and lost six consecutive times to Lt Col (Rtd) Bright Rwamirama in the race for Isingiro North MP seat.
The FDC leaders yesterday were flanked by Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago, who during a rally, described Minister Tumwesigye as “Beyendeza” (a selfish person).
The Minister is currently the MP for Sheema North, but decided to contest in the new municipality, since the law doesn’t stop him.
He also noted that Elioda’s salary as MP has already been deposited on his account yet the same man is campaigning to become an MP which according to him is greed.
Lukwago encouraged people of Sheema municipality to vote for the FDC candidate, noting, “This election is a chance to liberate our country.”
On his part, Colonel Dr Kizza Besigye advised the people of Sheema if they ever get money offers from the NRM, to take it but vote wisely later.
“For us in Rukungiri Museveni brought bags of money, trucks, motorcycles but people received them and voted wisely,” Besigye said.
The FDC candidate, Mrs Mugyenyi promised to elevate the people’s welfare especially in the health sector, noting that even when the constituency was represented by a health minister in Parliament, they never had a single ambulance.
The FDC team including; Ronald Mayinja, Mubarak Munyagwa, Ingrid Turinawe, Roland Kaginda, Vicent Kyamadidi, Kiiza Besigye and Elias Lukwagao promised to camp in Sheema until the voting day on 19th July 2018.
