The Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality area Member of Parliament in Bushenyi
district becomes the first greater Bushenyi region legislators to announce that he does not need security guards and 4-wheel drive pick-ups with open carriage beds.
President Yoweri Museveni wrote to the Minister of Finance, Matia Kasaija ordering him to immediately acquire a fleet of new 4-wheel drive pick-ups with open carriage beds to beef up security of Members of Parliament.
The decision by the President follows a meeting that was held with the legislators to discuss the security of Ugandans and lawmakers following the gruesome murder of one of their own, Ibrahim Abiriga.
According to a statement issued today morning, Gordon Arinda alias Cowboy says buying these vehicles for Mps is not a solution to security problems.
He added that president Museveni needs to first know if all mps want security officers before committing tax payer’s money.
Arinda noted that security officers cannot elongate his life if God decides to take it adding that he will not allow any security officer unless they issue threats over his life.
He joins other sections of legislators including Buhweju Mp Francis Mwijukye, Merdad Lubega Segona, Alex Byarugaba, Latifu Sebagala among others who have condemned the move.
