CHAOS AS RELATIVES FIGHT FOR DECEASED SISTER’S BODY

Police in Bushenyi district are investigating circumstances surrounding the murder of Harriet Birungi aged 47 years alleged to have been poisoned in alcohol.
According greater Bushenyi police spokesperson Martial Tumusime, Birungi a resident of Katungu ward, Nyakabirizi division in Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality is suspected to have drunk poisoned beer in the nearby trading centre on Sunday.
She was found dead in her house at around 3pm on Monday.
Martial said that they quickly dispatched a team of police officers to the crime scene and made some arrests.
He added that those arrested are her husband, a daughter and a neighbor.
The body of the deceased was taken to Bushenyi health centre IV for examination.

Meanwhile, there has been drama as the relatives of the deceased opposed the medical report from the postmortem noting that their daughter was murdered.

They also destroyed food that was prepared for the mourners and beaten up some people which attracted the police to fire bullets in air to calm the situation.

The body was then taken to Mbarara for more postmortem but the angry mourners told the deceased’s relatives not to return the body for burial since they (mourners) had already finished preparations.
