High court in Bushenyi is hearing a case in which an Anglican reverend is accused of impregnating a 17-year-old girl and procuring abortion.
It is alleged that, Rev.Gordon Muhwezi a former priest at Nyarutuntu church of Uganda in West Ankole diocese in the September 2021 helped a girl he had impregnanted to abort a five months old pregnancy.
One of the court witnesses, Eliazali Butaze an uncle to the victim told court that his daughter disappeared in September last year only to get a tip off that she was last seen with the priest.
The tearful old Butaze narrated that he alongside the grandfather of the victim Yoram Kabusende informed church leaders who lured reverend to their home where he later brought the girl whom he had hidden in Kiyanga Mitooma at the home of his aunt.
Court led by Justice Joyce Kavuma heard the priest was immediately arrested and taken to Mitooma police.
According to one detective ASP Tuhairwe attached to Mitooma , she ordered her colleague to take the victim to the accused’s aunt’s home to pick her belongings but while still on the way, the victim miscarried a 5 months old baby boy after which she confessed that the reverand had given her some abortion pills.
ASP Tuhairwe told court that while interviewing the accused at police, he confessed to the act but blamed it on the devil.
Justice Kavuma adjourned his case to 20th.Sept. 2022
