The National Water and Sewerage corporation Managing director Eng. Dr.Sliver Mugisha has given an assurance to the local people within
Bushenyi- Ishaka Municipality that his parastatal body is going to increase water supply and production.
Eng. Mugisha made this assurance on Saturday at the 10th Annual
General Meeting of Buturo People’s Savings and Credit Co-operative
Society held at Nyakabirizi playground in Bushenyi-Ishaka
Municipality.
He said they want to see that everyone accesses water before end of
March this year with additional 18Km pipe lines.
Mugisha attributed low water coverage and low pressure to Kitagata
domestic water point but quickly argued plans are underway to ensure
that all those areas are adequately covered.
The access rates in Bushenyi vary from 73 % in Ruhumuro Sub-County to 95 % in Bumbaire Sub-County.
Bushenyi has 8 piped water schemes and 1,284 domestic water points which serve a total of 205,070 people – 170,802 in rural areas.
214 water points have been non-functional for over 5 years and are
considered abandoned.
