In Rukiga

Police in Rukiga district is holding a suspect who was found with a motorcycle belonging to Medson Byamukama a boda boda rider a resident of Nyakagyera cell Nyaburambi parish Rwamucucu sub county in Rukiga district who was killed by unknown assailants.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Region police spokesperson told the press that It’s alleged that the victim disappeared on the 24/05/2023 at around 01:00pm, with his motor cycle registration number UFA 648R bajaj boxer, until yesterday 31/05/2023 when his body was discovered in the bush about 10 meters off the road by residents of Butambi cell Noozi parish Rwamucucu sub county.

Maate confirmed that fortunately the motor cycle was also yesterday recovered in Nyamweru sub county Rubanda district with Ismail Akandwanaho who was arrested for questioning.

Police was informed, scene was visited and documented and body was taken to Mparo health center IV for postmortem while Inquiries are still going on.

The Police Spokesperson notes that cases of murder were registered at Rukiga police station in Rukiga district under reference number CRB 253/2023.

In Kisoro

The territorial Police of Kisoro district are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 73 years old man whose body was found lying in the middle of Kamonyi Nyetete road in Bugwene village.

ASP Elly Maate has identified the deceased as Jackson Mukungu 73 years a resident of Buhayo village Mbuga parish Nyakinama subcounty in the Kisoro district.

It’s alleged that on 28/5/2023 the deceased spent the whole day drinking Mkomboti and waragi together with his son in a Kiseke trading center.

Later he bought pork and informed his son that he was going to prepare some food for himself. That the deceased didn’t prepare food on reaching his home where he stays alone but only to return to the same trading center and continued drinking more waragi.

Maate told the press that Habimaana reported the information to the police after he was alerted that his father was found lying in the middle of Kamonyi Nyetete road in Bugwene village.

Maate revealed that the scene was visited and documented, and the body was taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for Post-mortem.

Maate added that the inquiries into the matter are at hand to know the root cause of his death. The case file of death was reported at Kisoro CPS under reference number DEF 005/2023.

In Mbarara

Police in Mbarara city are investigating a murder case after their own officer shot and killed a UPDF soldier near the Bank of Uganda Branch on Friday.

According to SP Emmanuel Bwambale, DPC Mbarara City, the incident happened at around 6PM at the residence of the Field Force Unit (FFU) opposite Bank of Uganda when Police Constable Charles Opio killed Lance Corporal Yeremiah Paper a UPDF officer attached to Ruhengyere Engineering Brigade in Kiruhura district.

He added that the deceased’s body has been conveyed to Mbarara regional referral hospital for postmortem.

Eyewitnesses told www.mknewslink.com that after shooting the dead the UPDF officer, the police officer fired bullets in the air as he entered Mbarara central police station from where he was later arrested.

The latest incident adds to the rising cases of gun violence in the country.

Recently, at least eight people have been killed in the separate shooting incidents in Kampala and various parts of the country.

The west Ankole Diocesan Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni has reshuffled a number of church ministers to ensure smooth running of activities.

Rev Can Robert Kankiriho has been sent on sick leave from Kaburengye COU, Rev. Lovence Natamba posted to Nyaruzinga COU, Rev. Junior Turyatunga from Kiyuuya COU to Kashozi Primary School.

Others are Rev Elly Naamara from Nyaruzinga COU to Kiyuuya COU, Rev Fred Mwesigye from Bweranyangi Cathedral to Greater Bushenyi as curate, Rev Amon Tumusiime from Greater Bushenyi to Butsibo Parish, and Rev Abel Murangira from Butsibo Parish to Kaburengye Parish.

This was during a meeting held yesterday 17TH May with all clergy and church ministers in active service at St Peter’s Cathedral Bweranyangi in Bushenyi district.

The meeting started with morning devotion led by the Diocesan Head of Clergy Ven Rev Canon Godfrey Bejuura, who shared on this year’s Provincial theme “United for service and growth’.

Twinomujuni has expressed gratitude to clergy in active service for the great ministry they are doing for the glory of God.

He challenged and cautioned the clergy to guard against sin and asked them to guard the dignity of the diocese by watching their behavior.

He advised them to take care of their health through routine body checks, publicize diocesan projects and church developments.

Residents of Kyabalitwa Cell in Kisiita town council have been engulfed with shock and grief this morning after unknown assailants hacked a 23-year-old man to death.

The deceased has been identified as Justus Ssempewo 23, a resident of Kyabalitwa cell, Kisiita town council in Kakumiro district.
Ssempewo was a renowned boda boda cyclist in Kisiita town council. He was hacked over unknown reasons.

It’s alleged that he was butchered last night while at Kisiita Pentecostal Church alias the Church of Ntungura where he is said to have spent a night worshiping.

John Baptist Biryomumisho, the LC1 chairperson told our reporter that he was alerted by other residents at around 7:30 am reaching there to find Ssempewo killed in cold blood.

He called upon the residents to always help whenever they hear any alarm calling for help.

Wilson Ssebaduka, a father to the deceased told our reporter that he was a well-behaved boy at home and in the community but he was battling with the cases of his motorcycle that was burnt and was supposed to go to court today.

ASP Peter Kayemba the OC station for Kisiita police station has condemned the evil act asserting the police are to kick start the investigations and make sure that the culprits are brought to book for family justice.

He asked the residents to help the police in investigations in case of any information.

By press time, the Kakumiro police reached the scene with a sniffer dog, took the body to Albertine Hospital for postmortem, and later was taken by relatives for burial.

In Kisoro..

Over 1,078 people in Chahafi town council have requested to be relocated to any other available area in the country due to the continuous unpredictable flooding in their locality.

The list of 189 families was handed to the Kisoro district RDC by the area LC3 Chairperson Nkuzimana Hadard for consideration.

According to Nkuzimana, Villages of Chibumba, Pudu and Buyora are all flooded and houses are submerged with waters while others including Gisha, Pudu, Gatete, Muhiga and Rubagye faced serious landslides that even washed away some houses.

He noted that water levels of the floods in Chibumba village are still increasing and some of the submerged houses have started collapsing.

Nkuzimana noted that people in Chibumba wrote to him asking for relocation because flooding in their area is seasonal which has hindered development in the area.

He added that several other families have requested to camp in Kabami primary school.

RDC Hajji Shafique Ssekandi confirmed the development to voice of Muhabura.

He noted that he has a total of 189 families of 1,078 that want relocation and 25 families that are seeking to camp at Kabami primary school.

RDC further noted that he will address the issue to the State minister for disaster preparedness, emergencies and refugees, Hon. Esther Anyakuni who is expected in Kisoro today Thursday.

In Buliisa

Police in Buliisa District are investigating circumstances under which a woman identified as Sarah Kayeny a resident of Wantembo village Butiaba town council Buliisa District was allegedly robbed 2.5 million shillings from her house by unknown armed thugs.

On Sunday night at around 1am, unknown thugs went to the home of Kayeny pretending to have gone to buy cassava flour and ended up robbing her millions of shillings.

According to the victim, the thugs tied her arms with a rope, closed her eyes with a piece of cloth and entered her room, and took off with her money.

Kayeny added that the thugs were three in number with one armed with either a gun or panga dressed with a black raincoat. ‘’They were three in number, and one of them was holding something like a gun, dressed with a black raincoat,’’ she said.

The victim told this online publication that after struggling from down were she was tied, her son managed to wake up and make an alarm that attracted neighbors for rescue.

Mr. Uyring Michael, a neighbor explains that after hearing an alarm in the wee hours of Sunday at around 1:3am, he rushed to the home of Kayeny only to find her tied with a rope and a piece of cloth on the mouth.

Mr. Berochan Tito, Kayeny’s husband who has two wives told www.mknewslink.com that by the time of the incident, he was in Butiaba sub county at his second family.

Mr. Berochan asserted that he immediately reported the matter at Butiaba Police Station.

The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza confirmed the matter and said that the case of suspected robbery was registered at Butiaba police station.

The regional police mouthpiece further said that they have commenced investigations into the matter.

Bushenyi district service commission on Tuesday released results of different positions of interviews done previous weeks which include a controversial job of senior community development officer of Bushenyi Ishaka municipality.

Ronald Atubangira Rwabutwagu was appointed for the above job when actually he didn’t qualify for the short list and at worst he even failed the interview terribly.

According to sources from Bushenyi local government and district service commission the jobs for this session were politically interfered with and complaints are enormous in the public domain.

The job that www.mknewslink.com is sure about is the job of senior community development officer where Rwabutwagu failed the interviews with 52% where the best had 80%.

The compliant is already with the IGG Kampala and the IGG has already ordered the Ankole region IGG office to come to Bushenyi this week and investigate the offer of jobs to illegal people.

Sources told www.mknewslink.com that the jobs of this kind where given to children of politicians, relatives and friends which is against the public service act.

What is evident is the fact that politicians have over powered the new district service commission which is a danger to the people of Bushenyi and therefore something must be done to avoid this mess.

According to citizen report card a popular whatsapp group in Bushenyi, the founder of the group and CEO western Ankole civil society forum Apollo Lee Kakonge released a dossier detailing how politicians shared jobs at Bushenyi Ishaka municipality and Bushenyi local government.

In Bulisa

Shock engulfed residents of Biiso Town Council in Buliisa district after discovering a man’s body decomposing with missing body parts like eyes and fingers.

The Biiso Town Council Mayor, Mr. Okech Peter, said that the deceased was discovered in one of the uncompleted rooms of the Albert Nile Hotel.

The politician disclosed that he was informed on Tuesday evening by a resident that there was a decomposing body in one of the unfinished rooms of the hotel.

The political leader asserted that he immediately contacted the police, who rushed to the scene.

The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Mr. Mukasa Moses.

Hakiza told www.mknewslink.com that the deceased went missing two weeks ago, adding that as a result, his body was discovered decomposing.

The regional police spokeperson suspected the deceased to have been murdered and his body dumped in one of the uncompleted rooms of the Albert Nile Hotel, which is located along the Biiso-Buliisa road.

Hakiza said that the deceased’s relatives disclosed that the deceased had been a drunkard, and as a result, he had been living alone.

The police officer said the body was handed over to the relatives for burial as investigations continue.

Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament Dr. Nicholas Thaddeus Kamara has donated an Ultra Sound Scan to the Muslim founded Kirigime Health Centre III in Kirigime ward, Southern Division.

This is the second time Dr. Kamara is donating an Ultrasound Scan to a health facility in his constituency. The first was donated to Kamukira HC. IV in October 2021, a few months after his election to Parliament.

According to the FDC leaning Legislator, the Ultrasound Scans are valued at Ugx shs 12 million, and up to 4-5m is spent on training midwives to operate the equipment, bringing the total expenditure to about Ugx Shs. 20 million.

While speaking during the ceremony to handover his donation at Kirigime Health Centre III, Dr. Kamara explained that he developed the idea to buy the Ultra Sound Scans after he found out that expectant mothers from Kabale Municipality were paying shs. 20,000 to get services from private clinics.

He said the main purpose of the ultrasound scan is to help the midwives determine the status of the unborn baby and make a decision to either admit them or give them referral to bigger health facilities, and thus avoid death of mothers while giving birth.

Kamara also noted that the digital machine is faster and more accurate than the stethoscope which has been the only available tool to use in detecting abnormalities in pregnancies.

The Kirigime Health Centre III in Charge Dr. Hussein Ssemakula said that the facility had been without an Ultrasound Scan since 1996 when it was opened for operation.

He explained that they would make a lot of referrals for women seeking the scan services.

The Kabale Muslim District Kadhi Sheikh Kabu Lule thanked Dr. Kamara for fulfilling the promise he made on 15th January, 2023 during the inauguration of the Muslim leaders.
