HOIMA OIL CITY LAUNCHED, MINISTER MAGYEZI WARNS INTERIM LEADERS AGAINST CORRUPTION, FIGHTS

Local government Minister Raphael Magyezi has asked the interim leadership of Hoima city to focus on building it, improve on its security to attract investors rather than engaging in political fights, and corruption.
Magyezi was speaking at the launch of Hoima city and inauguration of the interim leadership on Thursday 13 August 2020 at the new home of the city headquarters in Rusaka Lower.
Hoima oil city is one of the ten new cities that became operational this financial year 2020/21 which include Mbarara, Fort portal, Gulu, Lira, Mbale, Jinja, among others.
Magyezi said that the interim leadership should use all opportunities including oil and Hoima international airport to bring services closer to the people and usher in modern infrastructure, a plan which requires non-fragmented land.
He has revealed that the remaining municipalities including Wakiso, Entebbe and others will be elevated to city status in 2025.
Magyezi has also chosen Fredrick Alibankoha to be the interim chairperson Hoima east division and Fred Kabajo to be the interim chairperson Hoima West.
The interim city mayor Grace Mary Mugasa has asked leaders and aspiring candidates to avoid political fights but focus on uniting and working together for development.
The acting town clerk Geoffrey Bwagi Bamanyisa has pledged total commitment for a performing technical team that will take the city to greater heights.
Hoima oil city seats on 228 square kilometres with a population of 171,000 people.
