David Katureebe (DK) son to Uganda’s former Chief Justice Bart Katureebe is eyeing Bunyaruguru MP seat.
With just 11 months left for the country to go to the much awaited 2026 general elections, Bunyaruguru area member of parliament (MP) aspirant David Katureebe, has come out and said he is going to the house to foster his constituency’s growth and tangible development, and is calling for a campaign based on issues.
He says the entire campaign should be a healthy one without any violence, but a campaign of serious matters and issues in the area, not propaganda and attacks between candidates and the electorates.
David Katureebe commonly referred to in the place as DK for his David Katureebe Foundation (DKF) is a son to former Uganda’s chief justice Bart Katureebe.
In an exclusive interview with www.mknewslink.com in Rubirizi district on Sunday January 26, 2025, he revealed that the urge to see Bunyaruguru constituency grow, develop and shine to the top in the greater western region of Uganda is what has propelled him to join the race to parliament to directly lead the cause from the driving seat.
During the interview, Katureebe (DK) revealed that now, is the right time for him to directly lead his people though he has for the past years been doing so, but in the background.
According to DK, even if he has not been holding any leadership position in the area of Bunyaruguru, he has managed to front and put to table, ideas which have in return been so successful and brought positive impact into people’s lives in the constituency.
Through his foundation, DK has been extending mega support to his people for example paying school fees for school going children but coming from needy homes with scholarships.
To this point, DK revealed that among the children being supported, six of them will be graduating in medicine soon.
He has also been very instrumental in the agricultural sector by providing and supplying coffee seedlings to the locals.
During the COVID-19 pandemic which hit hard the entire world economically and rendered people across jobless, desperate with nothing to eat, DK, again through the foundation, was with his people. On two occasions, he supplied and provided Bunyaruguru with food.
“That was really a very hard and trying time. No movements were allowed and people were not working. That means, our people had nothing to eat. So, I came in twice to try and provide food for the people,” DK told this website in the interview.
In the sports field for the people of Bunyaruguru, DK has supported so immensely. He told this news website that the sports tournaments he has been organizing in the constituency since the country came out of COVID, have born fruits by giving birth to Bunyaruguru Football Club.
The football club has performed so well in the past two seasons and is currently top of the regional football league table. He said that in case they make it to the national big league and eventually to Uganda premier league, then it will be a big statement which will call for construction of a stadium in the constituency, and therefore development in the area and creation of jobs which fall in that line.
Currently, the team is employing a total of 30 people and has boosted Nyakasharu town and the entire Rubirizi town council.
He calls upon all stakeholders right from candidates who will come to the race down to the voters to desist from propaganda, campaign full of hatred and violence but rather run a campaign based on issues aimed at solving the problems in the constituency.
He calls upon all the people in Bunyaruguru to rally behind him, send him to parliament and start demanding from him, development projects they desire to see Bunyaruguru prosper to greater heights in the region.
