ISINGIRO RESIDENTS DEMONSTRATE AGAINST AGE LIMIT REMOVAL

In Isingiro–
A cross section of residents in Isingiro yesterday Oct.23, 2017 demonstrated against their local council leaders for passing resolution authorizing MPs to remove age limit from the constitution.
During consultative meetings held in Isingiro north and Isingiro south
constituencies Members of LC ones and councilors together with elders
unanimously agreed to have article 102 (b) removed from the
constitution to enable president Museveni contest for presidential
race 2021
The meetings held in Isingiro north and Isingiro south were organized
by Hon Bright Rwamirama and Alex Byarugaba.
Rwamirama later told Journalists that amendment of article 102 (b)
can’t be subjected to a referendum because it’s not among those
articles entrenched by the constitution for an exercise and vowed not
allow a small number of MPs to decide for the rest over the matter
Following the resolution some residents claimed that they were not
involved in the consultative meetings and for that matter
disassociated themselves from resolutions and held a demonstration to
express their disappointment to the leaders as they walked some miles
while holding tree branches’
In Isingiro south the state minister for local Government Jennifer
Namuyangu commended president Museveni for the infrastructure
development he has put in place and urged people rally behind their
leaders in the struggle of removing article 102 (b) from the
constitution so as allow him continue in leadership and develop the
area more.
Namuyangu was in the area to hand over completed projects done by
millennium villages project using government funds that was secured
from the Islamic development bank.
