Police in Kanungu are investigating the murder of a 32 year old in Kambuga sub county Kanungu district.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesman has identified the victim as Hillary Owomugisha a resident of Kyampoza cell , Nyarutoojo parish Kambuga sub county Kanungu district.
Owomugisha was allegedly murdered on the wee hours of Thursday at around 1:00 am by Julius Kankwasa of the same village.
According to Maate, it’s alleged that one time, the deceased and his killer were arrested over theft of a motorcycle and were detained at Kihihi police station.
The owner of the motorcycle demanded 800.000 and each of them was to contribute 400.000 in compensation but Kankwasa paid for both.
However, the deceased failed to pay back the money Kankwasa had paid for him in compensation to the owner of motorcycle and it is believed that this could have been the cause of this murder.
Maate said the suspect has been a bhang smoker and habitual offender.
A case of murder has been registered at Kambuga police station and KANUNGU CRB 532/2021 reference.
A team of Homicide and other detectives visited the scene, drew a sketch plan, took photographs and documented evidence.
The Body of the deceased has been conveyed to Kambuga hospital for postmortem while the hunt for the suspect who is still at large is ongoing.
