Hoima district has recorded four more COVID19 new cases raising the number to 6 cases from landing sites along L. Albert in just one week despite many measures that were put in place to control the spread of COVID19 especially from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The new cases are from samples of over 30 contacts of two returnee cases taken from Kijangi landing site in Buseruka Sub County over the weekend and one returnee from D R Congo at Mbegu Landing site in the same sub county.
These are part of the 23 new confirmed Covid 19 cases that were announced on Wednesday 8th July 2020 by the Ministry of Health.
However, one patient from Mbegu landing site in Buseruka Sub County is missing as it is reported that he crossed back to Democratic republic of Congo and the surveillance team is on ground searching for him.
Samuel Kisembo, the Hoima district Covid19 task force chairman, says that three confirmed cases have been picked and brought to Hoima Covid-19 treatment unit.
Kisembo has expressed fear over the new cases at the landing sites and reiterates that they are going to meet top commanders of agencies managing the border to understand what went wrong.
In March this year the Hoima district security committee suspended all fishing activities on the Lake as one of the measures to stop the spread of Covid 19.
In May the same year, the joint inter-agency task force chaired by Maj. Gen. Leopold Kyanda the UPDF Chief of staff in charge Land Forces also ordered for the closure of over 100 ungazetted Landing Sites in Hoima, Buliisa and Kikuube Districts.
