THREE DROWN ON RIVER KAFU, KIKUUBE DISTRICT

Three people have drowned and died in River Kafu in Kikuube district after a canoe boat they were using from farming capsized on Monday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Edward Rutendeka 53, a resident of Kyarwabuyamba in Hoima west division and his wife Gloria Bizimana 30 Kyasajwa while the third victim is a three-month old baby girl.
It is reported that Rutendeka has been renting in Rwemparaki village in Ruhunga parish Buhimba sub county Kikuube district where he had gone to do rice farming and started cohabiting with Bizimana whom he found with a baby.
It is alleged that the deceased persons on Monday Morning using a canoe crossed from Rwemparaki village to Bananywa village in Kyankwanzi district where they always carry out farming.
However, on their return Journey, their canoe was swept away by the fast running water that forced it to capsize, killing the trio instantly.
Alex Kacwa, the Rwemperaki LC1 Defense secretary has said that the locals became suspicious on Monday evening after the deceased persons failed to show up in their home.
The situation forced residents in the area to mount a search for them and today Morning their bodies were sighted floating on River Kafu.
Residents teamed up and retrieved the bodies that were later handed over to the relatives for burial.
According to Kacwa, in September alone 5 people have lost their lives in the river.
Dan Mujjwa also a resident says though the trio struggled for their dear lives, it was not possible for them to service the boat accident.
Ali Irumba, a resident of Rwemparaki in Kikuube district says they cross to Kyankwanzi district through River Kafu using canoes to carry out farming and other business in the areas of Bananywa and Kikonge.
They practice rice farming while other residents carry out fishing activities in the river with canoes that are in dangerous mechanical condition.
Although police have not visited the scene, they have permitted residents to go on with burial arrangements.
