GOV’T TO CONSTRUCT 4 PROCESSING FACTORIES IN ANKOLE SUB-REGION

Farmers in Ankole sub region have tasked the Government to ensure stable prices and market for their goods.
The farmers raised their concern yesterday while attending the ongoing Third Ankole Business symposium at Kakyeka stadium.
Bruce Benwanira a Matooke farmer from Isingiro District who produces about 4000 bunches of Matooke in a month said that Government initiatives like Operation wealth Creation (OWC), NAADS have stopped at giving them agricultural inputs without providing markets for their outputs.
Naome Kashaka Rwakyene a farmer from Kiruhura District who doubles as the secretary for production Kiruhura District asked Government to put up a banana processing factory not only in Kiruhura District but across all banana growing areas so as to add value to their matooke.
Mitisera Beinomugisha a fish Farmer in Isingiro District says that Government should push for farmer associations and co-operatives in order to create credible markets for fish and its products.
Speaking as the chief guest, the National coordinator for Operation Wealth Creation Gen. Salim Saleh is already planning on construction of at least four processing factories in Ankole Region which will bring stable markets for Farmers products.
Patricia Ojangole the managing Director Uganda Development Bank asked the Business community to embrace loans in Uganda Development Bank which are accessible at low rates.
The Ongoing Third Ankole Business symposium that started on Monday 21st under the theme ‘the contribution of financial innovation to the resilience of the economy for sustainable growth’ will end today 23rd.
It has been graced by over 2000 Business people from the 13 Districts of greater Ankole who are show casing their products at Kakyeka stadium.
