The Minister of State for Trade and Industry David Bahati has called on members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to have and maintain discipline and patriotism as the country gears itself next year’s general elections.
Bahati has also urged fellow members to consolidate their achievements if they wish to retain power politically and prevent the NRM party from decline and losing support.
He made these remarks on Sunday, January 26, 2025 during the commemoration of the 39th NRM liberation anniversary which was held at Kabale Municipal Stadium in Kabale Municipality.
The Ndorwa West legislator cautioned NRM stakeholders in Kabale district against complacency, drawing a parallel with the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), which he said lost its grip on national leadership after taking political power for granted.
He emphasized the need to strengthen grass root mobilization. Bahati said: “As NRM members, we must focus on mobilizing at the grass root level if we want to retain national leadership.”
He thanked MPs who fought and supported the removal of presidential term limits, which allowed President Yoweri Museveni to continue with his “visionary leadership” of the country.
Additionally, Bahati encouraged NRM members to maintain political discipline as a strategy to attract new members from other political parties.
During the function, Bahati was endorsed as sole candidate for the position of Kabale district NRM party chair person.
