Three health officials working at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital (HRRH) were yesterday on Friday arrested and taken to Hoima central police for extorting from a patient who had gone to seek health services at the facility.
It was reported that the three allegedly extorted UGX 310,000 from a parent who had moved to the facility seeking a CT scan service on her child yesterday afternoon at the facility.
According to Hoima Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Hajji Badru Mugabi, the suspects were found in position of UGX 310,000 after extorting a patient before he could be taken to the laboratory.
“They got UGX 310,000 from this patient who had brought her critically ill child. They started by extorting UGX 10,000 outside the laboratory before the laboratory operator also extorted UGX 310,000 for his labor. When she realized she had not given receipt after paying, she contacted my office for help,” Mugabi told www.mknewslink.com reporter
Mugabi said that this sparked his attention to push for security intervention which managed to arrest and also recover the extorted amount from the corrupt officials.
He condemned the act, saying that it is contrary to government mission of ensuring corruption free environment in all public service delivery points.
Meanwhile, the identities of the suspects were yet to be disclosed by the time of this publication.
