Police in Rukiga District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 30-year-old man who was allegedly electrocuted while carrying out casual work at a roofing site.
The deceased has been identified as Namanya Venture, a resident of Nyamabale Cell, Muhanga Ward, Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District.
Preliminary police findings indicate that Namanya was undertaking casual work at the roofing site when he came into contact with a live electricity wire, resulting in his death by electrocution.
Nelson Tumushime, the Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, confirmed the incident, saying police responded to the scene and conveyed the deceased’s body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Tumushime urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution when carrying out construction work near electricity lines.
Police have also advised property owners to engage qualified electricians when undertaking electrical installations and other related works to prevent accidents and loss of life.
