In Kazo—
Security and community stakeholders in Kazo District have held a meeting to address the rising number of homicide cases registered in the district.
The meeting was held on September 30, 2026, at St. Catherine Secondary School Main Hall in Kazo Municipality, bringing together Police officers, political and administrative leaders, intelligence personnel, local leaders and other community security actors.
Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira said the meeting assessed the emerging homicide trend, its possible causes and security challenges, while identifying urgent measures to prevent further loss of life.
Kasasira said discussions focused on emerging patterns surrounding the killings, existing crime-prevention measures, operational gaps and ways of strengthening intelligence-led policing.
He said stakeholders also discussed interventions targeting crime hotspots, repeat offenders, community disputes, domestic violence and other security threats, with emphasis on coordination and information-sharing among security agencies, local leaders and communities.
Kazo District registered 14 murder cases between July and September 2026, with Nkungu, Buremba, Kanoni and Ngari Sub-counties identified as major hotspots.
Kasasira said the predominant method used in the killings involved victims being struck on the head with blunt objects. He added that Police had arrested prime suspects in some cases, although the suspects and their alleged accomplices varied from one incident to another.
As part of the resolutions, Police will intensify community policing, including strengthening Neighbourhood Watch programmes and community-based information-sharing mechanisms.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly and share information with Police to facilitate early intervention.
