JUST HAPPENING NOW: COL. BESIGYE, INGRID RE-ARRESTED AFTER MBARARA COURT GRANTED THEM BAIL
and Ingrid Turinawe.
The two together with Fred Kato Besigye’s driver had just been granted
bail by Grade one court where they appeared on charges of inciting
violence, assault and malicious damage.
Grade one magistrate Sanyu Mukasa released them on non cash bail of 5
million shillings each after they all denied the charges and through
their lawyer Lydia Ahimbisibwe presented substantial sureties in
court.
Earlier prosecution alleged that the three damaged police vehicles and
assaulted four police officers as they incited members of public at
Mahembe Gente round about in Mbarara town when they headed to attend a
rally for Patrick Amuriat at Kakyeka stadium on the 14th of November
2017.
Police used tear gas and live bullets to disperse the crowd, arrested
and detained them at Kabale police station until this morning when
they first appeared before Chief Magistrate’s court in Rukungiri
district and later in the afternoon paraded for grade one court in
Mbarara town.
Soon after court granted them bail police blocked the exit door of the
court cells and scuffled with them as they resisted being re-arrested.
Though Besigye tried to kick police he was over powered and bungled
into a waiting police van which sped off to unknown destination
