Kamapala City Council Authority [KCCA FC] bowed out of the CAF Champions league with their heads held high after losing 4-3 away to Al Ahly in their last group game.
The Kasasiro Boys who went into the game having already been eliminated saw the trio of Jackson Nunda, Peter Magambo and Allan Okello all on the score sheet in the thrilling encounter.
However it was not to be all three points for them as the record African champions Al Ahly scored a goal more with Walid Azarou (2), Souleymane Coulibaly and Morwen Mohsen all breaching Tom Ikara in-between the Kasasiro Boys’ sticks.
How the drama unfolded:
Walid Azarou put the hosts in the lead after 23 minutes much to the delight of tens of thousands of home fans who had turned up at the famous Borg El Arab stadium.
Mike Mutebi’s charges who looked to be relishing playing at the famous stadium immediately equalised as Jackson Nunda headed in a Mustapha Kizza cross.
Despite several decent half chances, the rest of the half saw no more goals as both teams went into the break locked at 1-1.
Earlier, Mike Mutebi had made an early change taking off the unconvicing Gift Ali for Lawrence Bukenya, a move that stabilised the midfield.
The second half started in disaster for Mutebi’s men as Souleymane Coulibaly restored Al Ahly’s on 50 minutes.
However, the Red Devils’ joy was short lived as Peter Magambo who was making his first continental appearance restored purity for the away side four minutes later off another Kizza delivery.
The breath-taking second half drama continued in the 63rd minutes as Patrice Carteron’s charges scored again through Azarou.
Seven minutes later, Morwen Mohsen scored a fourth to put the game beyond KCCA.
Sensing danger, Mutebi took off Ibrahim Sadam Juma for Muzamir Mutyaba and centre forward Patrick Kaddu was also replaced by defensive minded Isaac Kirabira in an attempt to limit the damage.
Eight minutes from time, Allan Okello cut the deficit to one with a well taken goal but any efforts to get a point were denied as the hosts held on to win 4-3 and confirm top spot in group A.
Elsewhere in the group, Ivan Ntege’s Township Rollers held visitors Esperance of Tunisia to a goalless draw in Botswana.
Al Ahly top the group with 13 points, Esperance (11), KCCA (6) while Rollers (4) sit at the bottom.

Forget about Mourinho for a second and just look at the sauce
Whilst Man United’s new away shirt, released weeks after just about every other club in the Premier League for some reason, isn’t quite on the same level of audaciousness as my Hamburg jersey in terms of colour, it is still an absolute beauty.
They’ve combined a light pastel shade of pink with a slightly darker tone for the iconic three stripes and sleeve trim, leaving the colour to do all the work and keeping things as simple as possible.
As always with a shirt focusing on a bold colour, clean is best, and even the eyesore of the Chevrolet logo doesn’t look that bad anymore.
Whatever happens during the rest of the season with regards to Mourinho, just know that Paul Pogba is going to do some absolutely ridiculous things as soon as he dons this pink kit. Jesse Lingard is going to make your dad’s head explode as soon as he bangs one in from 30 yards and Milly Rocks in it, too.
It won’t suit Phil Jones though. Nothing will ever suit Phil Jones unless it comes with mud stains already incorporated into the design.
Manchester United greats join fans at pink away kit launch
Hundreds of United fans queued for hours in the city centre to be the lucky first few to get their hands on the club’s new away kit.
The pink design, which pays homage to the M.E.N.’s iconic Football Pink newspaper, is on sale for just two days at the Adidas store on Market Street ahead of its general release next month.
And the manufacturers put on a special event to unveil the design, which United will wear at Burnley on Sunday, turning their store into a news agents, plastering the walls with old copies of the Pink.
Fans also had the chance to feature on their own front page of the famous paper, which ceased printing in 2007.
Supporters, some who had queued for hours, were greeted by club legend Bryan Robson in the ‘newsagents’ as he posed for selfies and worked behind the counter serving the fans.
The former United captain was later joined by Denis Irwin and Wes Brown and the newly-formed women’s team.
The mood of the fans in the store was upbeat despite United losing to Tottenham at Old Trafford on Monday night and Patrick Fitzgibbon, who had flown over for the game from Ireland, says the team will always have the fans’ backing.
