The former member of parliament for Bushenyi Ishaka municipality Hon. Odo Tayebwa has warned Anglicans in Bushenyi Ishaka municipality to stop bring back elections based on religious affiliation.
Hon. Tayebwa said this today June 21, 2025, during burial of senior driver Nyansio Bashaija at his home in Nteramo st. kagwa in central division Bushenyi Ishaka municipality Bushenyi district.
Without mentioning the name of the parliamentary candidate, Hon. Tayebwa said that Anglicans in the municipality have started saying that they should vote our chancellor of west Ankole diocese.
“I will vote for Hajji Iddi Basajabalaba but I want to warn you about religious differences especially the Anglicans rallying their own to vote for their candidate whom he did not name” Hon. Odo Tayebwa said.
“In this Bushenyi Ishaka parliamentary race, there is my late friend’s son, CLS Ndyakira Nicholas whom we share same religion; Catholic and has come to me several times but I will not vote him but rather Hajji Iddi Basajabalaba a Moslem” Hon.Odo Tayebwa added.
Greater Bushenyi was plunged into religious differences for along time when going for elections, elders and religious leaders would start throwing jargons like ‘Burimbuzi ahankondo yayo’ interpreted as each voter should follow a candidate of same religion.
These sharp religious differences were fussed by senior citizens like late Mzee Ezra Kikuri who was an Anglican but supported Longino Ishanga Ndyanabo to become the district chairman for greater Bushenyi.
Hon. Odo Tayebwa who has been a hardliner in opposition party FDC, recently crossed to NRM and told mourners that he met the president for 4.5 hours and very soon he will eat big.
Hon. Annet Mugisha attended the burial and asked the people to vote for her come July 16, 2025.
CLS Nicholas Ndyakira Muhereza aka Ekinawolovu contesting for Bushenyi Ishaka municipality parliamentary NRM flag was also given an opportunity to greet the mourners which he ably did.
