SIX KIU RWANDAN STUDENTS PERISH IN NAKASONGOLA ROAD ACCIDENT

Six students from Kampala International University (KIU) Kansanga have been confirmed dead in a nasty road accident that left 7 others with severe injuries at Kakooge village on Kampala-Gulu Highway in Nakasongola District yesterday Nov.04, 2017.
The Savana Region Police spokesperson; Paul Kangave has confirmed to www.mknewslink.com that 5 students died on spot in an accident that involved a taxi Reg No. UAZ 179T in which they were travelling and a tipper truck Reg No .UAK 812L which was parked at the road side.
“The taxi lost control and knocked the parked tipper truck at the road side, rolling on the road and hit another taxi Reg No. UAY 756Z which was coming from Kampala City.
The Students were coming from a party at Walusi in Nakasogola District at about 8:00pm when the fatal accident occurred,” Kangave told the www.mknewslink.com today.
Police have identified the dead as Fred Mutabaazi, Frank Ngalambe, Samson Makwengere, Vincent Kwizere, Fred Kasasi and Emmanuel Shema who died on his way to hospital.
The injured students were first rushed to St. Francis Health Centre IV Kakooge in Nakasongola District but were later relocated to Nsambya Hospital in Kampala.
Mr Samuel Kavuma, an eye witness of the accident and resident of Kakooge village claimed that the taxi Reg No. UAZ 179T was speeding. He said the driver could have lost control of the car at the narrow section of the road leading to the accident.
All the students involved in the accident are Rwandans and were coming from their meeting in Nakasongola.
Preliminary Traffic police investigations in Nakasongola indicate that the driver of the taxi which had 13 University students on board was speeding and could have lost control, leading to the accident.
