Preparations for the coronation of Tooro’s new King, Edward Rukiidi Nyabwongo I, are underway at Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal Tourism City following the announcement of September 29 as the coronation date.
Members of the Babiito royal clan and subjects from across Tooro Kingdom gathered at Karuzika Palace today to begin preparations for the historic ceremony.
The meeting was chaired by Msr. Isaiah Mayombo and led by the head of the Babiito royal clan, Musuga Charles Kamurasi, who yesterday announced September 29, 2026, as the date for the coronation of the new King.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, the communication officer for the coronation preparations, Fr. Oyo Charles, said preparations have officially commenced with the formation of various committees, including organizing, protocol, resource mobilization, welfare, transport, entertainment, communication and publicity committees.
Fr. Oyo described the coronation as an international ceremony and called on the people of Tooro to unite and participate in large numbers.
Fr. Oyo also warned the public against fake social media accounts allegedly created in the name of the new King, saying the accounts on platforms including X, Facebook and LinkedIn do not belong to him.
Deputy Musuga Kato Rwakatale said preparations will continue through daily meetings of the different committees to ensure a successful coronation, which is expected to attract guests from within Uganda and other parts of the world.
Meanwhile, preparations for Prince David Kijanangoma’s burial continue
As preparations for the coronation continue, the Babiito royal clan is also preparing for the arrival and burial of Omubiito Prince David Kijanangoma, whose body is expected to arrive in Fort Portal Tourism City on Thursday.
Fr. Oyo Charles said preparations are underway to receive the body and confirmed that Prince David Kijanangoma will be buried as a Mubiito, and not as a King.
