In Bushenyi—
Parents have been cautioned to take note of fake technical institutions which are on a rise in Uganda.
This was disclosed by the deputy executive secretary of Uganda business and technical examination board [UBTEB]Dr. Nahamya Wilfred while presiding over the first graduation ceremony of Bushenyi vocational Dan Memorial Institute in Bushenyi town today.
Dr Nahamya said there are many technical institutions in the country and aim at conning parents and students and after their graduation they are not considered by the public service commission and district service commissions for jobs.
He called upon students and parents to always visit the UBTEB website to verify the registered and recognized institutions by the national council for higher education.
He added that the list of registered institutions will be given to all district education officers [DEOs] in the country for parents to check for genuine institutions.
Dr. Nahamya revealed that graduates from such institutions are even not allowed to upgrade because their qualifications are not recognized by the ministry of education and UBTEB.
In her speech,the principal of BVI Mrs Modrine Agaba Nuwajuna called on graduands to always up hold the core values of discipline, hard work and trust where ever they go and also to advance in their studies
‘to my dear graduands, my appeal to you all is to advance in your academic career because just getting a diploma or a certificate will not guarantee you anything .Education gives dignity, respect and ego you need to turn your life around. Remember we are living in a competitive world of most educated Ugandans.
Today’s graduation was the first ever since 2010 when the institution begun and a total of 452 graduates received diplomas and certificates in Block laying, Accountancy, Welding and metal fabrication, Tailoring, Plumbing, Business management, secretarial studies among others.
